Share

Tom Holland returned to Instagram Saturday after a hiatus that he reveals was intentional. The global superstar of Spider-Man: No Way Home aka Mister Zendaya Coleman says he took a break because being on social media apps was bad for his mental health.

He says he finds Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating and overwhelming. That he gets caught up in the comments and then spirals when he reads things about himself online. Ultimately he says, it’s detrimental to his mental health so he decided to take a step back and he deleted the apps on his phone.

The mission of his brief return he explained, was to talk about a charity that is very important to him: Stem4  whose mission is to help teens with mental health issues.

Holland then explains the four apps that they have available absolutely free:

Calm Harm: Calm Harm is a free app to help teenagers manage or resist the urge to self-harm.

Clear Fear: Clear Fear is a free app to help children and young people manage symptoms of anxiety.

Move Mood: Move Mood is a free app to help teenagers manage low mood and depression.

Combined Minds: Combined Minds is a free app to help families and friends provide mental health support.

Before disappearing from Instagram again he says:

“There’s an awful stigma against mental health and I know that asking for help and seeking help is something easier said than done.”

And remember: It’s okay to ask for help.

The Brother’s Trust was set up in 2017 by Nikki and Dom Holland, parents to Tom, and his three  brothers: Sam, Harry and Paddy “the ‘brothers.”

Using Tom’s reach and popularity, the trust runs a number of fundraising events each year whose monies are granted to charities they support.

Central to their goal: “The trust is keen to shine a light on charities who struggle to be heard in the noisy and competitive not-for-profit sector, and charities who can best demonstrate the most effective use of funds to profit the people in need and not on bloated administration.”

Tom Holland’s Uncharted is currently streaming on Netflix.
