Jagged Little Pill, the Broadway musical ignited by Alanis Morrisette’s eponymous album, kicks off its North American tour in Los Angeles September 13 at The Hollywood Pantages theater.

Directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Waitress, Pippin), Jagged Little Pill is a musical with an original story by Tony and Academy Award-winning writer Diablo Cody (Juno, Tully), about a perfectly imperfect American family.

Morrisette says the show, “has been a guiding light, a grounding touchstone and a buoy for me to be part of. To know it is about to travel has me feeling grateful and excited!”

It was nominated for a season-record of 15 Tony Awards following its Broadway premiere.

Morrisette’s EP Jagged Little Pill — released on June 13, 1995 — rocketed her to become (still) the bestselling International Debut Artist in History. Twenty-five years later Pill remains one of the Top 20 best-selling albums of all time.

The stage musical inspired by Pill opened on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre on Thursday, December 5, 2019 following its record-breaking, sold-out world premiere at American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) in Cambridge, MA.

The cast album for Pill was officially released on December 6, 2019 – the day after  the show’s opening night on Broadway – and won the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.

In the fall of 2020 Grand Central Publishing released a hardcover coffee table book following the journey of Pill to Broadway.

Jagged Little Pill: The Novel, the young adult novel that gives a deeper glimpse into the characters of the show, coauthored by Morrisette and Cody, along with YA author Eric Smith, was released in hardcover and ebook on April 26, 2022.
