Lesbian Owned L.A. Coffee Shop Platforms Queer Poetry To Benefit the Trevor Project

Share

Couplet Coffee‘s, the LGBT and woman-founded, and leading Gen Z coffee/lifestyle brand, will present their Queer Art and Poetry Night, Friday, May 13th at the Robinson S.P.A.C.E. in Echo Park.

The event is sponsored by AIR – the Dropbox alternative for creatives.

Couplet Coffee has created a first-of-its-kind queer event in Los Angeles for the creative community. The Queer Art Show & Open Mic Poetry Night, is an art series which hosts some of the leading trailblazers and thought leaders within the LGBT community and features live music, DJ sets, epic poetry and art by queer artists, coupled with Couplet espresso drinks and fire snack moments from local sponsors.

The series, which hosted over 200 plus attendees at its last event, has a growing following with every event and is meant to be a safe, sober space for attendees. The event attracts LA’s IT crowd within the LGBT and creative community.

Notable stars from previous Queer Poetry Nights include “Dorky lesbian with a big gay agenda” and singer Lilly Brown, performing artist Jenna Marie, musical artist Ezra Michel, and director + conceptual artist Ani Acopian. Creating a save haven for the community, the event reimagines the usual gay bar social scene in Los Angeles  through a sober event that leans into the vibes, and not the liquor – “come for the coffee, stay for the people.” Would you be interested in attending the progressive event that focuses on inclusivity?

This year’s event will give proceeds to Trevor Project, an organization focused on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth. Couplet Coffee has built a progressive consumer community, online and in real life.

Couplet Coffee is showing how to build, engage and connect with communities

Couplet Coffee was founded by first-gen immigrant, lesbian, and a lover of all things coffee Gefen Skolnick, who has an avante-garde approach to entrepreneurship…  from raising her first funding round for Couplet Coffee through Twitter,  her self-designated role as ‘Chief Gay Officer,’ receiving the Twitter confirmation from Jen Rubio as the next-it-brand to utilizing her platform for change and celebration (cue: raising over $200k for racial justice organizations, and producing queer-community centered parties and events).
