Titans’ ‘Tim Drake’ Appears in The Batman, Who Is He Supposed To Be?

Share

Titans actor Jay Lycurgo, who plays Tim Drake on that series, has a cameo in The Batman that has fanboys scratching their heads.

Early in the movie, in a scene that introduces Robert Pattinson’s Batman, Lycurgo can be seen as one of the characters dressed up for Halloween with half his face painted and sides with some bullies in the subway.

The group of kids he’s with attempt to mug a man when the Bat shows and pummels the members of the gang, except for Lycurgo (unnamed in the movie by the way) who watches in awe and fear before finally scooting off. The actor played a pivotal role in Titans season 3 as the third Robin after Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) and Jason Todd (Curran Walters).

The season sees Drake figure out that Dick was Nightwing and that Bruce Wayne was the Batman.

A classic element of Drake as a character is that he’s someone eventually inspired by Batman. In his original inception in the Post-Crisis DC Universe, Drake saw how dark the Caped Crusader was becoming in light of Jason Todd’s death and strived to help by becoming a new Robin. Something similar could happen in this new cinematic version of Gotham City, with the unknown criminal seeing the true dangerous potential of Batman first hand. But given the film’s ultimately hopeful message and more heroic Batman, it’s possible the teen will see potential in how Batman handles himself. Already portrayed as wary of being a part of his gang, seeing the fate awaiting criminals like that could lead the teen to find a new path had become a hero.

Will the Bi, Black Boy Wonder be Pattinson’s sidekick?

Lycurgo is the first Black actor to play the Robin character.

Drake is also the iteration of Robin who came out gay recently.

The Batman is in theaters now.
