Read Phil Jimenez’ Beautiful Eulogy To His Mentor George Pérez

Share

Legendary superstar storyteller George Perez leaves lots of very talented disciples in the wake of his death, none moreso than Phil Jimenez.

In terms of Jimenez’ artistic and writing flourishes he is literally Perez’ spiritual and artistic heir, which made the wonderful words he wrote on his Instagram post dedicated to Perez this morning all the more poignant.

Jimenez wrote:

I once asked George — a man well known for his kindness and generosity of spirit; his exuberance, especially for his work and his fans, to whom he felt he owed everything; and his unparalleled love for his wife Carol — where that goodness came from: where his sense of responsibility to be a good person and do good in the world came from.

He told me he felt lucky every day of his life to do what he did — to live his dream every day. And he felt he owed the folks who gave him this opportunity to do so, his fans, his best, every single time.

He also told me it came from his mother, Luz. George said she was an utterly kind woman, who went through quite a lot in her life, and he wanted to be a man his mother could be proud of.

It was one of his great drivers in life.

I think he succeeded in spades.

RIP, Pops. Your work literally changed the world for the better. You changed my world beyond imagining. You made your mom proud.

You did GREAT.

I’m not crying… you are.
