Pete Davidson Says Goodbye and Thank You in ‘SNL’ Season Finale

Share

Pete Davidson said goodbye on last night’s Saturday Night Live season finale, which was his last.

Davidson joins Kate McKinnon who will not be returning in the fall.

Davidson appearing on the Weekend Update segment said:

“I never imagined this would be my life. Back then, I was just a skinny kid that no one knew which race I was. And now everyone knows I’m White because I became hugely successful while barely showing up to work. Look at me now, I’m aging like an old banana.”
He added SNL creator Lorne Michaels told him during his first audition that he didn’t think Davidson was right for the show, but:
“Let’s screw this up together. And that’s exactly what we did. And that’s why people who don’t think I deserve this job shouldn’t hate me since we have so much in common. Like, if anything I should be inspire hope that literally anyone could be on Saturday Night Live.”

Davidson gave his official farewell before the show via Instagram writing that he “got to share so much with this audience… and literally grow up in front of your eyes.”

Davidson will be starring with Edie Falco on the Michaels produced Bupkis for NBC’s Peacock streaming service. Deadline reported in March, the  “half-hour live-action comedy written, starring and executive produced by Davidson and executive produced by SNL honcho Michaels. The project, a heightened, fictionalized version of Davidson’s life, was taken out to the marketplace in March, and NBCU’s streamer landed it in a competitive situation with a straight-to-series order.”

Bupkis, which Davidson is co-writing with his longtime friend and collaborator Dave Sirus as well as Judah Miller (Crashing), will combine grounded storytelling with absurd elements from the unfiltered and original worldview for which Davidson is known.

The show, which has been compared to Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, is expected to reflect Davidson’s real-life persona with an unapologetically R-rated storytelling. Talks already have started with A-list talent for the ensemble cast around Davidson.

Elite Daily:

Peacock announced its straight-to-series order for Bupkis on Wednesday, April 27, after a reportedly “competitive situation” between networks for the show, per a press release released by the streamer. It’s easy to imagine why Davidson’s new comedy series is such a prize; public interest around the comedian skyrocketed at the end of 2021 when he began dating Kim Kardashian. The new relationship sparked an ugly and very public feud with Kardashian’s ex-husband Kanye West, and on top of that, Davidson’s bestie MGK had also begun getting a ton of attention around the same time for his buzzy relationship with Megan Fox. Not to mention, MGK and Fox had become couple friends with Kim’s sister Kourtney and her BF Travis Barker, another massive attention-grabbing relationship. Basically, the whole situation created a perfect storm of celebrity intrigue, and Davidson is right in the middle of it.

While no official release date has been announced, it’s believed Bupkis will begin streaming sometime in 2023, if not sooner.
