Years and Years’ Olly Alexander’s dropped the second single off his new EP  Night Caller “American Boy” on Thursday.

The pop star who is in the midst of a global tour performed in the United States, headlining West Hollywood, California’s gay pride festivities. Alexander was also part of the A-list audience  for Adele’s TV special, An Audience With Adele, recorded at the London Palladium. Guests including Dame Emma Thompson, Jodie Comer, Samuel L Jackson, and Boy George. The special aired following her two-hour special with Oprah Winfrey broadcast on CBS.

Pop star L Devine praised Alexander in a new interview for Cosmopolitan UK digital , of which she is a cover star alongside Becky Hill and Joy Crookes, saying:

“We opened up for Years and Years in Manchester and that was 100% like the biggest show I’ve ever played. I imagine that the majority of that crowd were part of the LGBTQ+ community so that meant a lot to me. You could feel so much love and positivity in the room. Everyone seemed super touched by the emotional songs, but then so up for a party at the same time. It’s not like a family-friendly show but that’s exactly why I love it. Olly Alexander put on the show that’s a way more accurate representation of a show that gay people want to see, rather than what people think gay people want to see.”

Poland based music magazine Rytymi says the sound of the new single was unexpected. The cover was originally performed by Estelle and Kanye West. “The R&B aesthetic track turned into a totally club-like pop track, very much in the style of Olly Alexander.”
