Anthony Edwards, who plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves, apologized for an Instagram post from Sunday where he called a group of of shirtless men “queer ass niggas” from a car.

In the now-deleted video,  a friend in the car is heard laughing in the background.

Following posting the video, Edwards, 21, deleted it after he faced a wave of backlash on social media, Edwards said he was “incredibly sorry.”

“What I said was immature, hurtful, and disrespectful, and I’m incredibly sorry,” Edwards tweeted Sunday. “It’s unacceptable for me or anyone to use that language in such a hurtful way, there’s no excuse for it, at all. I was raised better than that!”

According to NBC News:

The NBA could fine Edwards because of the incident, which most likely violates its social media guidelines. Last year, NBA star Kevin Durant was fined $50,000 for using “offensive and derogatory language on social media” after a homophobic rant. In 2011, the Chicago Bulls’ Joakim Noah was fined a similar amount for hurling an anti-gay slur at a fan.

“We are disappointed in the language and actions Anthony Edwards displayed on social media,” the team said in a statement attributed to team president Tim Connelly that was released Monday. “The Timberwolves are committed to being an inclusive and welcoming organization for all and apologize for the offense this has caused to so many.”
