Marvel’s New Podcast ‘The History of Marvel Comics: Black Panther’ Is Out Now

Share

In honor of Black History Month, Marvel Entertainment has produced a six-part podcast on the history of their character Black Panther.

The History of Marvel Comics: Black Panther traces the origins of the character to his fist appearance  in Fantastic Four #52 (cover-dated July 1966).

That comic introduced the Black Panther and revealed his  real name is T’Challa, and that he is the king and protector of the fictional  futuristic African nation of Wakanda.

Along with possessing enhanced abilities achieved through the  ancient Wakandan rituals of drinking the essence of the heart-shaped herb, T’Challa also relies on his proficiency in science, rigorous physical training, hand-to-hand combat skills, and access to wealth and advanced Wakandan technology to combat his enemies.

The first iteration of the character that I thought was worth reading debuted as the min-series that is now soldas a  collected as  graphic novel Who Is Black Panther?

That series debuted in Black Panther #1 in 2005, written by Reginald Hudlin and illustrated by John Romita Jr. Critically acclaimed, it lay the groundwork that made the path resulting in the movie.

Marvel Studios‘ Black Panther had its world premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on January 29, 2018. It debuted in theaters on February 16.

Panther grossed $700.1 million in the United States and Canada, and $646.9 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $1.347 billion. It became the highest-grossing solo superhero film and the third-highest-grossing film of the MCU and superhero film overall, the ninth-highest-grossing film of all time, and the highest-grossing film by a Black director.
