Doctors Opposing Circumcision comes out in support of Jewish lawyer who is suing Harvard over protecting children from circumcision.

Doctors Opposing Circumcision (D.O.C.) weighed in on a pending appeal in a case where Jewish plaintiff Eric Clopper filed suit in a federal court against Harvard University after the university terminated him following his anti-circumcision play.
As a group of medical professionals, D.O.C. is committed to spreading awareness about the harms of circumcision—aka male genital mutilation—and the lack of proven medical benefits associated with the practice. D.O.C.’s primary goal is to protect children from unnecessary harm and advocate for their bodily autonomy.
The Jewish plaintiff—and now lawyer—Eric Clopper alleged in federal court that Harvard violated its free speech promises and fired him for speaking out against circumcision.
In support of Eric Clopper, D.O.C. has filed an amicus brief. The amicus brief explains that the trial court’s dismissal with prejudice of Clopper’s case was so quick that it actually violated federal rules; and, instead, the judge should have fairly evaluated Clopper’s claims on their merits. D.O.C. is concerned that the trial court was quick to dismiss Clopper’s case because of his anti-circumcision message.
D.O.C. also uses this opportunity to educate the courts that the medical evidence clearly demonstrates that circumcision harms children and should not be routinely performed.
D.O.C. stands with Clopper in his efforts to bring attention to the issue of circumcision and the importance of protecting the rights of individuals to speak out on this issue, without fear of retaliation—especially at a prominent university that purports to value and protect freedom of expression.
