Greta Versus Tate or Why You Don’t Fuck with Teenagers on Social Media

Share

In the annals of Twitter the climate change activist Greta Thunberg versus MAGA kickboxer Andrew Tate may go down as one of the most epic battles ever.

Thunberg’s tweet has now become one of the top 25 most liked tweets of all time with 2.8 million likes and could easily hit the top ten by the weekend.

Wednesday’s Twitter exchange which went viral, bewteen Tate, who has gained notoriety for his frequent misogynistic comments, instigated the tiff by tagging Thunberg in a tweet about his 33 cars and their pollution-causing emissions.

“yes, please do enlighten me. email me at smalld–kenergy@getalife.com,” she replied in a quote tweet.

“How dare you?!” was all the self-described “success coach” came back with.

Thunberg’s response was to Tate’s:

Hello
@GretaThunberg

I have 33 cars.

My Bugatti has a w16 8.0L quad turbo.

My TWO Ferrari 812 competizione have 6.5L v12s.

This is just the start.

Please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions.

Tate, who is popular among some far-right followers and so-called incels, was banned from Twitter until he reappeared last month.

Tate was arrested by Romanian authorities on Thursday who were able to pin down his location because of the battle. He was arrested as part of a probe into him and his brother’s alleged human trafficking.

On background:

Thunberg is a 19-year-old climate activist from Stockholm, Sweden who has been making waves in recent years through her passionate speeches and calls to action to save the environment. She has spoken at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, the World Economic Forum, the UN Climate Action Summit, the European Parliament Environment Committee, and more. She’s a committed vegan, and she no longer travels via airplane, as commercial flying accounts for 12% of transport emissions.

Tate is an American-British media personality and former professional kickboxer, but in recent years, he’s gained more infamy than fame online for his misogynistic TikToks and radical views towards women. Some of the ideas Tate spews online are that women belong in the home, can’t drive and are a man’s property. He says that rape victims must “bear responsibility” for their attacks, and he claims that he prefers dating women between the ages of 18-19 because he can “make an imprint” on them. He’s posted videos acting out how he would abuse a woman if she were to be caught cheating on him, and he refers to an ex-girlfriend who has accused him of hitting her “a dumb hoe”.

Tate paints himself as a “self-help guru”, but in reality, his online presence is promoting misogyny and hate. Many of his videos have gone viral on TikTok, which is an app with an extremely large audience of teens, and whether or not he is “joking” in his videos is likely to be lost on them. However, he might be completely serious about all of his claims, as earlier this year a video surfaced of him actually beating a woman with a belt. It’s frightening to know that this man has 3.4 million followers on Twitter, and before being banned, his TikToks had been viewed 11.6 billion times.

Alejandra Caraballo Tweeted: Romanian authorities needed proof that Andrew Tate was in the country so they reportedly used his social media posts. His ridiculous video yesterday featured a pizza from a Romanian pizza chain, Jerry’s Pizza, confirming he was in the country. This is absolutely epic.

Greta’s tweet has now become one of the top 25 most liked tweets of all time with 2.8 million likes. It could easily hit the top ten by the weekend. This is absolutely legendary.
