FDR Four Freedoms State Park Debuts NY’s largest Progress Pride Flag with Ballet Hispánico

Share

This year, the Four Freedoms Park Conservancy (FFPC) debuted its Progress Pride Flag  at the FDR Four Freedoms State Park on Roosevelt Island, NY with dancers from Ballet Hispánico, one of the nation’s great cultural treasures that combine artistic excellence with advocacy.

Dance is one of the most cherished forms of communication, and freedom of expression was paramount when President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered his Four Freedoms speech in 1941. In it, he proposed four fundamental freedoms that people everywhere in the world ought to enjoy: Freedom of Speech and Expression, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear. We take these sentiments to heart in our work at FFPC today.

The installation is the largest Progress Pride Flag in New York State, measuring more than 100 feet long by 30 feet wide. The Park’s Progress Pride Flag serves as a symbol of solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community and a reminder of the collective progress needed to achieve these freedoms.
