Exclusive: Check Out Amazon Prime’s ‘A League of Their Own’ Premiere at Tribeca

Maybelle Blair, 95-year old original All-American Girls Professional Baseball League player, came out for the first time publicly during the post-screening panel of Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television World Premiere of Prime Video’s highly anticipated series, A League of Their Own, at the Tribeca Festival Monday.
Blair was joined onstage by series co-creator and star Abbi Jacobson, series co-creator Will Graham, executive producer Desta Tedros Reff, pilot director Jamie Babbit, and stars D’Arcy Carden, Chanté Adams, and Gbemisola Ikumelo.

The panelists also touched upon their motivations in creating this series, highlights from filming and what they hope it brings to audiences.
In a genuine and emotional moment, 95-year-old Blair came out publicly for the first time. Blair was particularly open about her experiences during her time in the league and praised the creative team for their ability to capture the true essence of her experience. Blair opened up about the importance of the representation and truth the series provides; while at the same time endearing attendees with her uplifting spirit and resilience which are reflective of themes highlighted within the series.
A League of Their Own will premiere all eight episodes exclusively on Prime Video on Friday, August 12 in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
A League of Their Own evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball.
The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the league and outside of it.

The series was co-created and executive produced by Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson. Field Trip’s Hailey Wierengo and Desta Tedros Reff also serve as executive producers.
